Vocal Health for the Performer

This class is for actors, singers, public speakers, and anyone who uses their voice regularly. Learn how to care for your voice while improving technique, expressiveness, and endurance—so you can perform confidently without strain or injury.

Workshop Overview:

  • Part One: Understanding and Preparing Your Voice

    • Anatomy & Mechanics: Explore how lungs, diaphragm, vocal folds, and resonators work together to produce sound. Learn about airflow, pitch, resonance, and vocal registration.

    • Breath & Support: Diaphragmatic breathing and ribcage expansion for steady, supported tone.

    • Vocal Warm-Ups & Exercises: Quick, effective routines to release tension, improve range, and enhance tone quality.

    • Posture & Alignment: Techniques to reduce tension in jaw, neck, and shoulders, while engaging your whole body as a resonant instrument.

    • Vocal Mechanics & Expression: Forward focus, smooth register shifts (head vs. belt), vowel shaping, articulation, and connecting speech and singing.

  • Part Two: Performance Application
Each student will perform one minute of a song, monologue, or voice over reading, using a script of their choice or we can provide you with one at the workshop, and you'll receive individualized feedback from Amanda.  You can read straight from your script and don't have to be memorized at all, so no pressure. The emphasis will be on expressive performance while maintaining vocal freedom, healthy technique, and reducing tension.
