About the instructor:
Jessica Geffen is a professional actor, voice actor, and audiobook narrator with over 20 years of experience in theatre, film, and voiceover. She is an Audible Approved Producer with more than 100 audiobooks to her name, and her voice has been featured in work for Amazon, Old Navy, Intel, Microsoft, National Geographic, Intuit, TiVo, and more. On camera, Jessica appeared in national campaigns for the Ad Council and CDC, and regionally for Taylor Farms.

Her stage work includes six years as a Resident Actor and Associate Artist with Bag&Baggage Productions, as well as performances with Theatre Vertigo, PDX Playwrights, Well Arts, Public Playhouse, Portland Actors Ensemble, and Lunacy Stageworks. She received the Broadway World Award for Best Featured Actress in Blithe Spirit and a Drammy Award nomination for The Drowning Girls.

Jessica is represented by The Option Agency, Big Fish NW, and several regional VO agencies. She is also the owner of The Sound Stage in Vancouver, WA —
a recording studio supporting voice actors, podcasters, and filmmakers across the Pacific Northwest.

What You'll Learn:
In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll get a clear, practical introduction to voice over, covering the essentials every new voice actor should know:

The VO Industry: Learn what voice over actually is, the many genres you can explore (commercial, narration, audiobooks, animation, video games, e-learning, and more), and what skills make a successful VO artist.

Home Studio Basics: We’ll walk through how to create a simple recording space at home, including affordable gear options, sound treatment tips, and the basic tools you’ll need to get started.

Finding Work: Get a realistic look at how beginners can start finding opportunities—from online casting platforms to networking, agents, and direct marketing—plus the red flags to avoid along the way.

Script Reads + Feedback: Every student will get time on the mic reading short scripts, with direction and supportive feedback. This hands-on practice gives you a taste of what recording voice over actually feels like.

Q&A Session: (Optional) Stick around after class for a 30-minute open Q&A. This is your chance to ask anything about training, demos, career paths, studio gear, or workflow.
