About the instructor:

Denise was raised in Hampshire in the south east of England and holds a BA Degree in Acting from Middlesex University in London. She moved to Los Angeles with a Green Card in 2017 and then to Vancouver, WA in 2024. In her final year of university, she booked her first professional role playing Ophelia in a national tour of ‘Hamlet’ which began a successful career in UK theatre. Denise has performed on stages all over the British Isles, Europe, Canada and the US, including an Off- Broadway run. Screen roles followed and her latest role in ‘The Mural’ movie shoots in Portland this coming September. Also a successful audiobook narrator and voice actor in video games, animation, commercials, and audio plays, she currently voices the characters of Dr Ava Jansen in the video game franchise ‘Call of Duty’ and Illezra in ‘Black Desert’. In 2024 she was nominated for a One Voice Award and VOX Award for Best Video Game Performer. Denise was selected as a participant in BAFTA’s US Newcomers Talent Program from 2018- 2022, and is now a BAFTA Connect member. In her spare time, Denise enjoys singing oldies and holiday classics with local a cappella group ‘The HoneyBees’, exploring new places, and watching cartoons with her animator husband.

Wanna dig deep and solidify your British RP dialect?

This workshop, led by actress and voice coach Denise Hoey, takes you beyond the basics and into full performance with the RP accent.

 

Designed for actors who have prior RP experience—or who have taken our Intro to British RP class—this session focuses on applying the dialect to longer texts and strengthening consistency in performance.

What You’ll Learn:

  • A deeper dive into Conservative RP (classic BBC English) vs. Modern RP (today’s more neutral, widely used sound)

  • Refining oral posture: mouth placement, consonant clarity, non-rhoticity, and vowel shifts

  • Using the glottal stop effectively in Modern RP and London-style speech patterns

  • Developing the natural rhythm, musicality, and flow of the accent in performance

  • Applying RP to longer texts—monologues and scene work—to build stamina and consistency

  • ​

You’ll Leave With:

  • Greater mastery and confidence using RP in full-length performance material

  • Individualized feedback and coaching from Denise on your monologues and/or scenes

  • Tools and techniques for breaking down new text and approaching future RP roles with clarity
